To a growing number of Americans, the Ukrainian government is wearing out its welcome.
After our compromised, garbage media and political class told us to automatically back Ukraine and hate Russia following Moscow’s Feb. 24 invasion, taxpayers have been on the hook for tens of billions of dollars in direct financial aid, supplies, weapons and other materials. In short, Joe Biden the dementia patient is protecting Ukraine’s borders while leaving ours wide open, all because his son made corrupt deals there and he reportedly got a 10-percent cut.
But no matter how much aid Americans continue to provide, it’s simply not enough; like the stray cat that won’t go away, once we began ‘feeding’ President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, he just keeps coming back for more.
The Ukrainian government on Tuesday asked Washington to provide Kyiv with a “lend-lease” program to import natural gas from the US to ensure Ukraine has enough gas for heating this winter, Prime Minister Denis Shmyhal said on Tuesday.
The idea is for the US to provide gas to Ukraine and collect payment at a later time, similar to the World War II-era lend-lease program that was revived this year to facilitate military aid to Ukraine.
“Preparation for the most difficult winter in our history continues, and in this preparation we are looking for all possible tools to be ready for any scenario,” Shmyhal wrote on the Telegram social media platform.
As noted by Foreign Policy, one proposal that has been floated a number of times by several Ukrainian officials is for the United States (taxpayers) to give Ukraine around 6 billion cubic meters of liquefied natural gas (LNG) without taking any payment for the commodity for two years. The U.S. would be expected to front the costs, of course, then deliver the gas to terminals in Europe, where the LNG would then be shipped to Ukraine through a pipeline.
Currently, Ukraine’s government is experiencing a $5 billion per month budget shortfall, despite the billions American taxpayers have supplied.
“Naftogaz CEO Yuriy Vitrenko, who was in Washington last week for meetings with the Biden administration, said Ukraine needs $8 billion in financing to fund the import of 6 billion cubic meters of gas before the winter,” Foreign Policy reported.
“Before the war, Ukraine consumed 30 billion cubic meters of gas per year, a third of which was imported. Some 90 percent of Ukrainian homes are reliant on gas heating, and gas serves as a backup source of energy for many of the country’s power plants,” the outlet continued, noting that the U.S. has committed more than $54 billion (in borrowed money) to Ukraine, which is insane given the country’s national debt is more than $30 trillion.
“They have a very clear mandate to provide necessary assistance to Ukraine. We want to structure it in a smart way so that there is no burden on the U.S. taxpayers,” Vitrenko said.
Except that every dollar going to Ukraine has come from U.S. taxpayers, and we will again be on the hook for any new funding and war materials provided to Kyiv.
What’s more, Ukraine isn’t the only country that will become increasingly reliant on U.S. fossil fuel sources: So, too, is Europe, which is rapidly attempting to decouple itself from Russian energy (which should have happened long ago).
“Europe’s very reliant on Russia for energy, but they’re trying to reduce that reliance very quickly,” Emily Holland, a scholar at the U.S. Naval War College and an expert on European energy issues, told Foreign Policy. “The next one to two years is going to be quite challenging for Europe in terms of trying to transition away from Russian gas.”
Worse, this comes following Zelenskyy’s issuance of a “blacklist” that bars certain Americans from coming into the country after falsely claiming they are ‘Russian stooges.’
“This is the sort of tactic used in fascist, authoritarian states, smacking of Nazi Germany and the old Soviet Union under Stalin. And this is on top of Zelensky pursuing the following despicable tactics, all rooted in authoritarianism and tyranny,” Natural News founder/editor Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, reports.
This entire situation is madness, but it’s also intentional.
